Reveal trailer: the premise and visual identity

The first reveal established The Defiant as a story-driven FPS about the Chinese front of World War II. Its purpose was to introduce the period, resistance theme and battlefield tone rather than explain the full campaign. The footage provides evidence for environments, uniforms, weapons and presentation, but it does not name the four chapters, identify the playable soldiers or give a release window.

2025 gameplay footage: a clearer look at combat

The 2025 footage moved beyond the premise and showed more of the first-person combat direction. Players could see period firearms, infantry encounters and Chinese battlefield environments in motion. It still represented work in development: weapon appearances and visible mechanics are useful evidence, while enemy AI, interface details, mission order and final balance cannot be treated as locked.

ChinaJoy / Bilibili First Look: the hands-on build

At the Shanghai Bilibili First Look preview, IGN played a combat-heavy slice set in snowy northeast China. The route moved through caves, trenches, forests and burning homesteads before larger infantry exchanges. The preview loadout included a Liao Type 13 rifle, a two-gun carry limit and grenades.

The build supported running, sliding and crouching. IGN reported that jumping, vaulting and going prone were not available in that version, and noted that AI and HUD presentation were still being iterated. These are dated observations from a preview build, not promises about the finished game. The same preview reported a developer target of roughly 15 hours for the solo campaign and a separate PvE co-op concept using campaign maps and missions; player count and match types were still undecided.

July 30, 2026: gameplay reveal and console announcement

4Divinity and Hoothanes released a new gameplay reveal and confirmed PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions alongside PC via Steam. This was the material change in the announcement: The Defiant was no longer only represented by its PC store presence, and the intended platform range became explicit.

The announcement did not provide a launch day, price, console store page or final co-op specification. Steam continued to list the game as Coming soon. Watch the New Gameplay Reveal, then use the platform page for the current store-by-store status.

gamescom 2026: official gameplay trailer

During the gamescom 2026 cycle, IGN published an official gameplay trailer and Steam listed an Opening Night Live 2026 video. The new footage gave players another view of combat, locations and cinematic presentation while reiterating the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series plan.

The showcase did not change the release status. A gamescom appearance is evidence that promotion and development are active, not a guarantee of a release date. Watch the official gamescom 2026 gameplay trailer.

How to read the updates

Separate shown, announced and planned information. A trailer can show a weapon or environment; a publisher announcement can confirm a platform; a developer plan such as a roughly 15-hour solo campaign or separate PvE co-op can still change before launch. This distinction is why the timeline is more useful than repeating the same short news blurb across four pages.

Evidence limits

Footage can show scenes, weapons and presentation. It cannot confirm final features, chapter order, price or launch timing without a written announcement. Prefer the Steam video list and IGN page over reuploads. For the current date, always recheck Steam’s Coming soon label.
